Overview The James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University seeks to hire a James Madison Program Postdoctoral Research Associate for the anticipated year from September 1, 2026 to September 1, 2027. Appointments are through the Department of Politics. The position is in residence on campus at Princeton University and may involve teaching opportunities with Dean of the Faculty approval. The position is fully funded for 12 months with benefits.

Responsibilities

Devote full time to proposed research while engaging in Program activities (e.g., faculty-student seminars, colloquia, and public lectures).

Attend or participate in Program activities as appropriate.

Provide in-person participation and office hours as required by the Program and University policies.

Qualifications and Requirements

Ph.D. degree awarded within the last three years (no earlier than September 1, 2023), or candidates must have less than three years of post-Ph.D. research experience prior to the anticipated start date.

Recent Ph.D. recipients or those who anticipate receiving their Ph.D. are eligible to apply.

Ability to work in residence in Princeton and not be employed by another institution during the term of the appointment.

Salary and Benefits Expected Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000. The University considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, qualifications, experience, education, and organizational considerations when extending offers. The posted salary range is a good-faith estimate for full-time positions; salaries for part-time positions are pro-rated accordingly.
