Overview
The Tax Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely compliance with multi-state sales and use tax regulations. This role manages all aspects of sales tax reporting, research, documentation, and audit support while collaborating with internal departments and external advisors. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Base pay range

Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple states and local jurisdictions. Review invoices and transactions for use tax applicability and ensure proper documentation and coding. Maintain and reconcile sales and use tax liability accounts within the general ledger. Research and interpret state and local tax laws, monitoring regulatory changes and assessing their impact. Support sales tax audits by gathering documentation and responding to inquiries. Partner with internal teams to ensure accurate tax coding and exemption certificate management. Manage tax registrations and licensing requirements for new jurisdictions. Collaborate with external tax advisors and auditors on compliance and reporting matters. Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance efficiency. Maintain accurate tax data and records within
Acumatica
and
Avalara
systems. Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Minimum of 2 years of experience in sales/use tax accounting or general tax compliance. Solid understanding of multi-state sales and use tax regulations. Proficiency in
Excel
and tax compliance software such as
Avalara
(or similar). Experience working with ERP systems (e.g.,
Acumatica ). Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred: CPA certification (or progress toward obtaining one). Experience with tax audits, tax recovery strategies, and process automation. Understanding of
U.S. GAAP
and internal control frameworks. Exposure to
Lean process improvement
