We are looking for an EHS Manager at our Charleston, SC location. This position describes EHS Leader for sites that are moderate to highly complex, or where there are significant EHS risks to be managed. Recommended for manufacturing sites with more than 500 employees and/or one or more sites with multiple facilities.
Responsibilities:
Manage the development and integration of incident reduction and safety performance improvement activities, including but not limited to the following: ergonomics; behavior-based safety; standardized work; safety training and awareness; safety auditing; employee involvement; and a defined safety leadership process to achieve the Safety Excellence philosophy.
Evaluate, recommend, and implement policies and procedures to assure awareness and compliance with all EHS requirements of ZF and regulatory agencies.
Manage and lead site efforts with implementing and integrating the ZF EHS Management System requirements.
Remain fully up-to-date and informed about all existing and proposed changes to health, safety, and environmental compliance (local, state/provincial, and national) regulations and requirements that are applicable at the site, and maintain compliance related plans, procedures, and documents.
Submit all applicable EHS reports to ZF, regulatory agencies, etc.
Support the Organization and Management Team in formulation and achievement of its EHS objectives and targets and advise on policy and regulatory matters.
Ensure work processes analyses that identify potential hazards and application of appropriate controls (including equipment EHS reviews, site physical reviews and work methods/practices reviews).
Manage the assessment and periodic re-assessment of potential risks/hazards.
Manage, develop, and provide or direct applicable EHS training for employees, supervisors, and management team.
Develop and administer plant-wide emergency response procedures.
Establish and oversee safety programs/processes and committees in ergonomics, accident investigation, and health and safety.
Serve as the sites’ primary interface with external EHS regulators in the event of site inspections, reviews, or operational inquiries.
Ability to work hands-on and independently and to champion successful EHS initiatives.
Capable of completing special assignments to work with Global Team Regional EHS Manager in support of ZF EHS program (as agreed to with site Management).
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering and/or Safety Engineering and Management or closely related science/engineering field is required. Advance Degree or EHS related Professional Certification (CHMM, CIH or CSP) preferred, but not required.
Five 5 – 7 years of experience in manufacturing environment with emphasis on safety/environmental management. Must have ability to work without direct day-to-day supervision and must be capable of managing/leading all EHS Function activities.
Thorough working knowledge and understanding of EHS compliance (local, state/provincial, and national) regulations that are applicable to the facility.
Thorough knowledge in relation to develop processes and practices related to the following key areas: EHS System implementation; Behavior Based Safety; Ergonomics; Risk Assessment and Reduction; Industrial Hygiene; Environmental Control (air, water, waste).
Experience in implementing and managing EHS Management System requirements and ISO 14001/45001 MS certification requirements.
Excellent leadership and managerial skills required including high energy and proactive forward-thinking abilities.
Strong organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must have demonstrated follow-up and closure skills.
Must be able to successfully manage multiple activities.
Achieve ZF Ergonomics subject matter expert proficiency.
