Our client is a multi-strategy hedge fund with over $12 billion in assets under management. They are seeking to hire a Consumer Discretionary Analyst (Softlines) to join their Long/Short equity team. The firm is recognized for its forward-thinking investment approach, integrating data science, technology, and deep fundamental research.
Base pay range: $175,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr
Job Description As a Consumer Retail Analyst, you\'ll focus on identifying investment opportunities across the Softlines space, including apparel, footwear, accessories, luxury goods, and specialty retail. You\'ll work closely with the Consumer sector lead to generate high-conviction, actionable ideas using your buy-side experience and sector knowledge. The role requires a strong grasp of brand dynamics, consumer trends, and competitive positioning. You\'ll analyze macro drivers, seasonal demand shifts, and supply chain impacts across key subcategories. Experience in fundamental long/short equity research and presenting to PMs is essential. A passion for the consumer sector and a track record of driving alpha are key.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct deep-dive research and financial analysis on Consumer retail companies.
Monitor industry trends, consumer behavior shifts, and macroeconomic indicators.
Build and maintain detailed financial models to support investment theses.
Present investment ideas and insights to the investment committee.
Collaborate with other analysts and portfolio managers to align on sector strategy.
Leverage alternative data and technology tools to enhance research depth and accuracy.
Stay current on earnings, regulatory developments, and competitive landscape.
Qualifications
5+ years of total experience in equity research, with
AT LEAST 2 years on the buy-side .
Bachelor\'s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Strong understanding of the Consumer Retail sector, particularly Softlines
Proven ability to generate differentiated investment ideas.
Excellent modeling, analytical, and communication skills.
Interest in applying alternative data and tech-driven insights to investment research.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
