POSITION SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in Finance Program activities. Performs technical and administrative accounting work in maintaining the fiscal records and systems of the County. Responsible for overall workflow of accounting information collection, classification and querying. Responsible for regulatory reports including payroll and data collection from government and regulatory agencies. Oversees workflow of other finance staff.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Audit

Assists in the preparation for the annual audit, by reviewing, reconciling, compiling and evaluating accounting records and preparing year-end work papers for individual funds

Assists in the production of contracts, purchase orders, credit card transactions, vouchers, and invoices for validity and proper recording in the general ledger as requested by auditor

Assist in the preparation of desk audits and annual audit, including the Single Audit

Financial Review and Reporting

Makes various journal entries to complete each monthly accounting cycle. Reviews and monitors monthly expense reports and transactions for accuracy. Reconciles cash receipts, accounts receivable, monthly bank statements, reviews balance sheet activity and prepares adjusting journal entries as necessary

Approves journal entries and vouchers for payment

Prepares monthly/quarterly financial reports and other financial analyses as needed

Prepares and presents financial reports to the Gunnison-Hinsdale Board of Human Services

Prepares project/program financial reports; maintains and reconciles project/program cost reports; assists project/program managers with financial information

Attends to project/program manager’s queries regarding project/program reports/budgets

Communicates with departments, researching and providing recommendations concerning accounting issues; plan, organize, supervise, and perform complex accounting and fiscal duties; ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards

Provide leadership and technical direction to professional and clerical staff within DHHS finance

Contribute to process improvement discussions related to accounting policies and procedures

Prepares, reviews, and reconciles general ledger entries, balance sheet accounts, and financial transactions
