Overview
IN ADDITION TO COMPLETING THE CITY OF BOSTON CAREER CENTER APPLICATION, Under general supervision, the Motor Equipment Repairperson performs routine duties in servicing automotive equipment, making minor repairs, and cleaning vehicles for the Boston Police Department’s Fleet Division.
Additional Requirements:
Individuals wishing to be considered for this position must complete the Civil Service Labor Service Registration Process for the position at
http://www.mass.gov/hrd/macs
in addition to the City of Boston Career Center application.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance including analysis, diagnosis, and repairs of vehicles, including non-safety-related equipment such as power windows and door locks.
Service and wash vehicles, including steam cleaning, checking fluid levels, and dispensing gasoline, motor oil, and windshield washer fluid.
Lubricate automotive parts.
Check, charge, and maintain batteries and terminals.
Conduct physical checks of tires, glass, lights, and mirrors.
Adjust tire pressure, remove, replace, balance, and rotate tires.
Perform minor adjustments to automotive equipment such as batteries and radiators.
Replace bulbs, mirrors, and lenses.
Update decals, permits, plates, and stickers according to State ESI requirements.
Assist Class I and II Motor Equipment Repairpersons.
Perform related work as required.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
At least two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as an automotive mechanic working on light and heavy-duty equipment.
Valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. A 2C hoisting license and a Massachusetts State Enhanced Safety Inspector’s Certificate are required within one year of hire.
Ability to exercise good judgment and attention to detail.
Criminal Record Check Required
Pre-employment drug test and physical required
