Job Title: Physician - Department of Urology, Vice Chair for Research (Open Rank/Track Faculty). Department: The Ohio State University College of Medicine’s Department of Urology. The position is full-time on the tenure-track, with salary commensurate with education and experience. The successful candidate is a nationally/internationally respected scientist who has maintained an externally funded and independent research program with impact in or implications for the field of Urology. A focus in prostate and/or bladder cancer is preferred. Demonstrated experience as a research mentor is required. Expertise in research administration is desired, but not mandatory. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience. Position Overview The Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Urology is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing and implementing the department’s strategic research priorities to grow the research portfolio, recruit new scientists, expand research space, increase research funding, and improve research impact. The successful candidate will develop a translational research program with clinical implications ultimately capable of advancing the care of patients with urologic disease. The Vice Chair for Research will foster a collaborative research environment and promote a culture of discovery. They will ensure that the department maintains a high standard of scientific excellence and innovation. Joint appointments with other departments across the University will be available and encouraged. Department/Division Overview The Department of Urology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report for delivering high-quality care for urologic conditions. Our mission is to alleviate patient suffering from urologic disorders through an integrative model of clinical care, patient-centered discovery and educational innovation. The Department has a rich history dating back to 1917 and is composed of six specialty Divisions with 21 adult faculty members and 13 advanced practice providers. The department performs nearly 20,000 clinic and operative procedures annually. Clinical care, research, education, and community service are major priorities, and the Department is engaged in multicenter and multispecialty initiatives. The NCI-designated OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) and the James Cancer Hospital provide a collaborative research environment. The overarching research priorities of the OSUCCC – James include immuno-oncology, cancer engineering, translational genomics, cancer prevention, and survivorship. It has over 360 researchers across Ohio State and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Researchers participate in five interactive programs within the cancer center, translating discoveries into patient care through clinical trials. The OSUCCC – James is funded by the NCI to conduct phase 1–3 clinical trials of novel cancer drugs. In addition to two research fellowships, the Department sponsors clinical fellowships in Endourology and Urologic Oncology, while Nationwide Children’s Hospital sponsors a pediatric urology fellowship. Duties and Responsibilities Research Leadership: Develop a translational research program within the Department of Urology; recruit and retain scientists; foster scientific inquiry and innovation; lead high-impact research projects; promote interdisciplinary collaboration to meet department goals. Funding and Grants: Identify and pursue funding from federal agencies, private foundations, and industry partners; oversee single and multi-PI grant proposals; manage research budgets and resources. Mentorship: Teach and mentor students, trainees, and junior faculty with a commitment to recruiting and developing women and underserved minorities. Requirements MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field. Actively funded research program in basic or translational research. Research designed to lead to clinical trials. Proven track record of independent research and successful grant acquisition. Experience in a leadership role within an academic or research setting. Extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in research methodologies and data analysis. Ability to teach and mentor undergraduate, medical and postdoctoral students. Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
