Assistant Professor, 9 Month Salaried (Classics)

The Department of Classics at Florida State University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level. This is a tenure-earning position that will begin in August 2026. We seek a specialist in Greek history and/or historiography with a focus in the Hellenistic period, broadly defined, and research interests that complement those of existing faculty. Responsibilities The 2/2 teaching assignment normally includes both undergraduate- and graduate-level teaching with at least one large undergraduate course with broad appeal to non-majors. Qualifications A doctoral degree from an accredited institution is required, as well as a developing record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service is required. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to both research excellence and engaged teaching to multiple constituencies. The Department of Classics at Florida State University is among the largest Classical Studies programs in the public university system and provides undergraduate students the intimacy of a small liberal arts college, while providing graduate students the resources and experience of a large R-1 university.
