Overview
Director of Development (LA) at First Place for Youth. The Director reports to the Chief Development Officer and works closely with the Bay Area Development Director to shape, plan, and implement First Place’s annual private fundraising strategy in Southern California, including raising $7M-$10M annually from foundations, individual donors, and corporate partners. First Place for Youth is a leading nonprofit focused on supporting foster youth in their transition to adulthood, with emphasis on education, employment, and housing. Our programs empower foster youth to overcome challenges and build skills, confidence, and connections to succeed. Base pay range
$110,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr Responsibilities
Identify and cultivate new major donors in Southern California and manage a portfolio of existing donors to support the organization’s growth plans. Build relationships with LA-based funders and corporate partners in partnership with the Chief Development Officer and the CEO. Develop an annual donor giving strategy for Southern California, including a calendar of proposals and reports. Manage annual fundraising activities directed at individuals, foundations, and corporate partners in the region. Collaborate with the CEO, Development team, and Communications teams to plan and execute donor-focused events and communications. Lead and train staff across departments to effectively message and engage external audiences, including funders and partners. Support the Development team with leadership, coaching, and a strengths-based management approach. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with strong donor engagement and moves management skills. Experience soliciting and closing 5- and 6-figure gifts. Strong commitment to cultural competency and belonging. Experience in communications, events, individual giving, and corporate partnerships is highly desirable. Proven ability to manage staff and collaborate with peers; strategic thinker with excellent organizational and project management skills. Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills for potential funders. Commitment to the mission of First Place for Youth; availability for occasional evenings/weekends and some travel.
