Overview

Assistant or Associate Professor - Philosophy

– Lehman College, City University of New York (CUNY). The department invites applications for a tenure-track

Assistant Professor

or tenure-track/tenured

Associate Professor

position beginning in Fall 2026. The department seeks candidates with specialization in Philosophy of Technology and AI, or Business Ethics (broadly construed). The appointment will connect the Department of Philosophy with the Department of Computer Science and the School of Business, offering courses on ethical and philosophical issues in computing and technology, data science, and business. The AOC is open, but the Department has teaching needs in philosophy of mind, epistemology, philosophy of education, philosophy of gender, environmental philosophy, and ancient and medieval philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower-level service courses such as Critical Reasoning, Logic, Contemporary Moral Issues, Justice and Society, or Problems of Philosophy, and to explore innovative pedagogical techniques to promote student success. The teaching load is 18 credit hours (6 courses) per year, which may be taught in person or online depending on the department’s needs. The candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda. For tenure-track faculty, the teaching commitment is reduced by six courses over the first five years to support research; tenured faculty may receive additional teaching releases to assist with research. All faculty are eligible to apply for competitive internal Lehman College and CUNY grants to support their research. Service is required for tenure and/or promotion, and the successful candidate will be expected to engage in significant service activities at the departmental, college, university, professional, and community levels, commensurate with rank.
