NON-CLASSIFIED/ School Psychologist - School for the Deaf. This role is associated with the CSDB / School for the Deaf community. General Responsibilities
This position reports to the Director of Special Education, and is responsible for the psychological, educational, developmental, social, and emotional assessment of children, birth to age 21 who are Deaf/ hard-of-hearing, and who may have other disabilities. The position provides School Psychology outreach services, participates in MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) and PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) efforts campus-wide. JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs psychological, educational developmental, social, and emotional assessments of children who are Deaf/hard-of-hearing, and who may have other disabilities; develops and monitors behavior management plans; crisis intervention as needed; participates in educational plan development (IEP); maintains counseling caseload; case management; coordinates mental health services. Demonstrates knowledge in task analysis, assessment, behavior management, functional behavior assessments, behavior intervention plans, organization/planning, parent relations and teamwork; provides consultation services for teachers and instructional teams. Works as part of the education/diagnostics team responsible for identifying, monitoring, evaluating, developing, and implementing individual objectives for assigned students. Provides ongoing professional development to campus staff. Collaborates with the mental health team to provide direct individual counseling and teach group social-emotional lessons. Provides outreach services as assigned, including consultation, assessment, counseling, and coordination of services with local district and agency personnel. Participates in Student Services and Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind teams; attends regular meetings, counseling team meetings, and school-wide strategic planning. Supports PBIS/MTSS data collection, team meetings, and diagnostic interpretation for intervention planning. Provides parent consultation and participates in parent-focused activities. Participates in staff development and training/workshops; presents on the social/emotional development of children who are Deaf/hard-of-hearing. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of and ability to apply current assessment theory and practices for students who are Deaf/hard-of-hearing across settings. Demonstrated knowledge of Colorado Special Education rules governing identification and services for children with disabilities. Knowledge of federal and state laws concerning educational programming for persons with disabilities. Ability to assess and apply technology for position requirements; proficient with common software (email, internet, word processing, calendar, presentation creation, spreadsheets, databases); willingness to stay current with CSDB support. Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff who are Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing using diverse communication modes. Ability to respond to feedback constructively and positively. Ability to work cooperatively in a team; strong interpersonal skills. Qualifications
Specialist Degree in School Psychology from a regionally accredited college or university. Must hold or be eligible for appropriate Colorado educator licensure as a Special Services Provider, endorsed as a School Psychologist (e.g., passing PRAXIS School Psychologist or NCSP certification). Successful experience in mental health assessment and service provision to children with sensory disabilities. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at Advanced (3+) level, demonstrated by appropriate assessment and school policy. Supplemental Information
Working conditions: typically in a school environment, with possible travel to outlying districts. Light physical activity; may require occasional exertion. Climb stairs, bend, reach, and operate computer equipment. Ability to coordinate data, instruct/train others, and use interpersonal skills effectively.
