Job Description:
A Polysomnographic Technician Lead is an advanced level position. This position performs responsibilities of a Polysomnographic Technologist I & II while acting as a leader and resource for other Technologists at Lurie Children’s and off-site facilities. This position performs comprehensive sleep testing analysis and associated interventions under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., and/or PH.D) or designee. Has the ability to complete administrative tasks as well as technical duties. This position provides leadership to the other Polysomnographic Technologists and orientation of new technologist.
Essential Job Functions:
Supervises all of the nightly activities and technical aspects of the Sleep Medicine Center.
Assists in the hiring of other technologists for the Sleep Medicine Center.
Maintains a work environment that encourages retention, development of the team, customer service and family centered care by being a team role model. Demonstrated the ability to function as an advocate, mentor and leader.
Actively facilitates problem identification, avoidance and resolution.
Review and evaluate sleep studies and provide appropriate feedback to staff.
Monitors employees understanding and adherence to Lurie Children’s policies and protocols.
Identifies opportunities to improve technical processes through innovations, simplification, increased efficiency and cost reduction.
Works with the vendor, biomedical engineering, and IT in order to troubleshoot technical problems and maintain equipment.
Scores sleep/wake stages and scoring clinical events (such as respiratory events cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards. Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
Demonstrate critical thinking and ability to work with minimal supervision to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
Maintain continuing education requirements for credential by reviewing literature and attending continuing education meeting and seminars.
Inspect/maintain sleep study related equipment/inventory and orders supplies.
Develops and assists with the development of protocols and clinical standards within the Sleep Medicine Center as well as quality assurance projects.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Performs other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High school diploma or GED required.
RPSGT credential required.
Two years of college or equivalents preferred, or 6-7 years of experience performing polysomnography is preferred.
Current CPR or BLS certification through American Heart Association required.
Demonstrated effective written and spoken communication skills.
Ability to move machines and patient weighing in excess of 25 pounds.
Pay Range:
$31.50-$51.50 Hourly. Benefits:
