Directs the day-to-day activities of building staff. Duties include but are not limited to: hiring, training, counseling, evaluating staff performance, and recommending the disciplining and/or discharging of staff. Prepares and administers building budget(s). Oversees the procurement of books, supplies, materials and equipment ensuring expenditures are within the approved budget(s). Maintains current knowledge of best practices, trends and new developments in elementary school curriculum, instruction and building administration. Recommends and implements changes to operations and instructional strategies as necessary. Ensures departmental staff maintains required credentials and facilitates on-going development opportunities that align with district strategies and objectives. Oversees the maintenance of accurate personnel, student and fiscal records; protects and ensures confidentiality; ensures required documentation and reports are complete. Establishes and maintains communication with central office administrators, building staff, students, parents and others; articulates and promotes the vision and mission of the building. Creates a positive and cooperative atmosphere that encourages and motivates students and staff; promotes positive school-community relations by clearly communicating school messages to parents and members of the community; responds to parental and community inquiries in a timely and courteous manner; encourages/promotes parental participation in school activities; provides support to parent organizations and maintains visibility with students, parents and the community. Tracks student achievement and progress toward instructional goals and objectives of the building and district; initiates corrective action as necessary. Works cooperatively with intervention assistance team, guidance counselors, student safety resource coordinator, and others to implement initiatives to decrease student drop-out rates, increase academic success and ensure students can achieve their appropriate grade level. Monitors school building areas to ensure safe conditions and compliance with Federal, state and local health and safety standards. Develops and executes the building’s emergency and crisis plans to include fire/emergency drills. Plans, coordinates, and executes assigned grade level activities. Supports the implementation of after school activities and events by attending activities/events and ensuring acceptable student behavior at all school sanctioned/sponsored activities/events. Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, administration or a related field required at time of appointment. Experience:
Seven (7) years of licensed teaching experience with Columbus City Schools or a comparable district, and one (1) year of school-based administrator experience (principal or assistant principal). Licensure/Certification:
State of Ohio Principal license (Grades PK-6). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and district policies related to assigned functions; curriculum development and implementation; student information systems and learning platforms; and laws related to student rights, teacher contracts, discipline, and special education. Skills:
Computer proficiency; interpersonal communication; conflict management and resolution; budget management. Abilities:
Ability to make informed and timely decisions; effective communication with all levels of district staff, students, parents, and the public; ability to develop positive working relationships; tactful and respectful handling of difficult situations; prioritization and multitasking; document management and record-keeping; leadership and staff development.
