Assistant Principal - Elementary School
Columbus City Schools is seeking an Assistant Principal for an elementary school. The successful candidate will provide assistance with strategic direction and oversee the execution of all plans and activities of the district’s curriculum. Essential Duties: Supervise day-to-day activities of building staff, including hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating staff performance. Assist the Principal in overseeing the delivery of academic instruction, ensuring learning experiences consistent with the mission statement and instructional goals of the building and district. Provide assistance and guidance to staff engaged in student instruction. Promote improvement of curriculum and instruction within the building. Monitor student achievement and progress toward instructional goals and objectives. Administer the student behavior and discipline program, counseling and providing guidance to students. Investigate and address student-related issues and concerns, developing a plan of action to address problems. Work cooperatively with various teams to implement initiatives to increase academic success. Plan, coordinate, and execute student activities and programs. Assist in development of the master schedule and class scheduling of students. Monitor school building areas to ensure safe conditions and compliance with health and safety standards. Manage the transportation of students to/from school. Perform the duties of Athletic Director/Coordinator, administering the athletic program for the building. Create and promote a positive and cooperative atmosphere, ensuring rules are fairly and consistently administered. Support implementation of after-school activities and events. Prepare or oversee completion of required documentation and reports. Promote positive school-community relations, clearly communicating school messages to parents and the community. Develop and maintain appropriate communication and relationships with departments and officials. Resolve problems in a collaborative, tactful, and respectful manner. Perform the duties of Principal in their absence. Maintain current knowledge of best practices, trends, and new developments in middle school curriculum, instruction, and building administration. Minimum Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, administration, or a related field. Five years of successful, licensed teaching experience and one year of school-based administrator experience. State of Ohio Principal license (Grades PK-6). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards, curriculum development, and student information systems. Computer proficiency, interpersonal communication, conflict management, and resolution skills. Ability to make informed decisions, communicate effectively, and develop positive working relationships.
