Backend Engineer

This is a hybrid role with 2 days in office in Irvine, Seattle, or Arvada. Candidates will also be considered in the greater Washington D.C area. We aim to maximize benefits of in-person collaboration spaces while offering a flexible schedule with a large amount of remote work.
Base pay range:
$120,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr .
What You’ll Be Doing You will be responsible for developing ground satellite operations software using Python and AWS services. Satellites are treated as flying servers you connect to every 90 minutes.
You will develop Python microservices deployed in cloud or on-premise environments with a focus on scalability, security, cost, and performance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including satellite operators and other software engineers, to understand requirements, implement features, and troubleshoot issues. You will optimize resource utilization and automate processes to support thousands of satellites.
You will primarily develop backend software capabilities, with the potential to contribute to DevSecOps and CI/CD tooling, as well as software architecture design and maintenance.
Tech Skills
Proficiency in Python and Java or C++
Experience deploying and maintaining software in Kubernetes
Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, EKS, CloudWatch, S3, EFS/EBS, EC2, and RDS
Strong knowledge of containerized applications and serverless architecture
Strong knowledge of designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting APIs, services, distributed NoSQL and relational databases, caching systems, event-driven and multi-tier architectures
Strong knowledge of task automation and CI/CD pipeline building with GitHub or GitLab
Familiarity with Git and GitLab or similar version control systems
Soft Skills
Deep technical analysis and troubleshooting skills
Independent self-starter; able to complete projects on time with minimal guidance
High standards for software maintainability, quality, resilience, and performance
Strong cross-functional communication between frontend, backend engineers and product managers
Background Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field)
4+ years of professional backend development, DevOps, or related experience
Active (preferred) or previously held U.S. Security Clearance (TS/SCI)
