Christ the King Jesuit College Prep, through the Cristo Rey Network model, provides a college preparatory education to high school students from under resourced communities on Chicago’s West Side. At CTK, we prepare students to achieve their fullest potential through the integration of academics, work experience, extracurricular activities, and service. We are proud that, in 15 years, CTK graduates have been accepted to college. Through the Corporate Work Study Program, all CTK students work 5 days per month at a leading Chicago area company. The wages students earn fund a substantial portion of the cost of their education, making quality, college prep education possible for students who otherwise would not have access. The program provides work experience, career exploration, mentorship, and networking to position students for success in college and beyond. Job Summary – Van Driver, CWSP
The CWSP Van Driver drives a Pace van or CTK shuttle and safely, professionally transports students to and from their Corporate Work Study jobs each day. This is a part-time seasonal position that begins mid to late August and ends in late May or early June. The position is scheduled Monday – Thursday with two shifts each day. Shift times are approximate and may vary based on student presence and traffic. First shift: around 7:30am–10:00am; Second shift: around 2:30pm–5:30pm. Compensation: $19.25 per hour. Key Responsibilities
Student Transport: drive student workers from the school to their job placements in the morning and back in the afternoon/evening; ensure students are dropped off at the correct location and know their assigned work placement. Route and Safety: maintain knowledge of routes/stops, follow the route sheet, use GPS for best routing, ensure a welcoming professional van environment, and address student behavior concerns as needed. Van/Shuttle Operation: adhere to road rules and CTK/Pace policies; ensure seatbelts are worn; conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections; do not operate a van that fails inspection. Van/Shuttle Upkeep: maintain fuel levels, keep the vehicle clean, collect items left by students, and arrange maintenance as assigned. Reporting: prepare and submit required reports and daily trip logs; report behavioral issues or vehicle concerns to supervisor. Additional Responsibilities: exercise good judgment, engage positively with students while maintaining boundaries, communicate effectively with CWSP staff, comply with applicable policies and regulations, and perform other duties as assigned. Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (insurable). Minimum of 3 years of safe driving experience. Excellent integrity and initiative; strong interpersonal skills to communicate with students and staff. Reliability and punctuality; ability to work daily shifts. Sensitivity to the ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds of the student body; willingness to work in a faith-based institution. Physical ability to perform job duties (standing, sitting, walking, lifting 25 lb or more) and to communicate effectively. Ability to grasp and move items with hands; ability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and reach. Note: The successful candidate is required to pass a background check prior to hire and annually while employed, obtain and maintain Pace driver certification, maintain a clean driving record, and pass annual and random drug (including marijuana) and alcohol screenings.
