We are seeking an

HPC Scientist

in our

Broomfield, CO

location. Quantinuum is a leader in the full stack of Quantum Computing from hardware design, build and operation, to Quantum Operating System development and deployment, to end user software development. Several of these stages require traditional HPC resources, separated or integrated with the Quantum Computers themselves. With the growth of the industry and the company, its HPC needs are growing too and hence we are hiring an HPC Scientist. This is a tremendous opportunity to leverage your traditional HPC expertise to join a sector in exponential growth at an early stage and become one of the first experts in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Contributes to planning, installing, configuring, maintaining and supporting one or more Linux HPC clusters, including web-based HPC services such as Open OnDemand and/or JupyterHub

Assists scientific computing users with developing, compiling, profiling, debugging and running their workloads in an effective and efficient way, using the appropriate tools such as GNU compilers, LLVM (including clang and flang), Intel compiler, OpenMP, MPI, Dask, etc

Contributes to maintaining accurate and up to date end-users-facing documentation about the HPC systems, supporting the usage of the HPC systems and infrastructure. Works with users to explain the documentation and improves it as needed

Monitors system health, integrity, and resource utilization. Utilizes such metrics to inform management about future purchase decision

Works collaboratively with other stakeholders, including security, networking, user support, and researchers to guarantee that needs are met, policies are implemented, and everything is working in the best possible way

YOU MUST HAVE

Master’s degree minimum

3+ years of experience (advanced degree inclusive) in an HPC support or administrator role

2+ years of hands-on experience with Linux/Unix administration and HPC systems deployment and management, including storage, computing, and InfiniBand networks

2+ years of experience writing scripts (e.g., Bash, Python) and utilizing automation/configuration tools to maintain consistent, reproducible, and well-documented HPC system states

1+ year of experience collaborating with external vendor support engineers to troubleshoot technical issues and collect/analyze logs from OS, firmware, PSU, or related components

Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person. defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status

WE VALUE

PhD in mathematics, computer science, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field

2+ years post-PhD experience in a role of HPC support or administrator

Experience working with support engineers from external vendors, to troubleshoot problems, including ability to collect and communicate highly technical logs from different sources (OS, firmware, PSU, etc)

Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and relevant domain knowledge

Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and maintaining web-based services in an HPC environment such as OpenOnDemand or JupyterHub

Familiarity in the administration of the SLURM workload management system, including debugging unexpected behaviors and/or configuring it for less common use cases

Familiarity with Lmod environmental modules and the Spack package management tool

Ability to write and maintain scripts using a range of programming languages such as bash shell, Python, Perl, Lua, etc.

Familiarity with monitoring systems, creating actionable alerting, metrics collection to gain insight into production systems

Experience administrating an environment with multiple versions of Python, Dask, GNU compilers, LLVM (including clang and flang), Intel compiler, OpenMP, MPI, and other user-facing libraries

Proficiency in one or more compiled languages such as C, C++, Fortran, or Rust

A history of supporting code development in scientific computing

A history of public-facing work, such as code repositories, patents, or conference presentations

Being a Linux Cluster Institute graduate, and/or a SIGHPC member or having equivalent experience in the field

Experience with correctly configuring and maintaining LDAP in a Linux environment connecting to Microsoft’s Active Directory

Experience with git and version control in general

Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to simplify and communicate complex technical information

Compensation & Benefits $140,000 - $175,000 a year

Compensation: Non-Incentive Eligible

The pay range for this role is $140,000 – $175,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate’s skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
