Overview
Macdonald and Company partner with a privately held real estate investment and operating firm focused on the ownership, development, and management of commercial properties, to appoint a Controller. The firm seeks an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations and help scale their finance function in alignment with company growth. This individual will play a critical role in improving and enforcing accounting processes, driving the monthly close cycle, managing property-level accounting, and overseeing complex entity structures. A strong understanding of MRI Software and experience with CAM reconciliations/OER reporting are essential. Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across a large portfolio of properties and entities Own the integrity of financial reporting and general ledger accuracy across all real estate assets Oversee all aspects of property accounting, including rent rolls, accruals, lease accounting, and operating expense tracking Manage and reconcile CAM and OER in accordance with lease agreements Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, investor reporting, and audit packages Maintain and optimize MRI accounting system workflows, reporting modules, and property setup processes Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls, reduce manual errors, and streamline workflows Coordinate with property managers, internal stakeholders, and external auditors as needed Support tax and compliance efforts by providing accurate entity-level financials across a complex ownership structure Mentor and supervise accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement Compensation
