Senior Accountant – Contract (Hybrid, Houston, TX)
We are seeking an accomplished
Senior Accountant
to join our client’s team, a Fortune 30 company, for a critical project.
This is a
hybrid contracting opportunity based in Houston, TX .
Role Overview
As a Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in driving financial accuracy and compliance in a highly regulated, public company environment. You will own the month-end close process, prepare and review financial statements, and partner closely with cross-functional teams.
Because of the scope and complexity of this role, a
Big 4 background is highly preferred —bringing the technical expertise, rigor, and exposure to public company standards that are essential to success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, and general ledger reconciliations.
Prepare and review financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and corporate policies.
Perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Conduct balance sheet and P&L reconciliations, identifying and resolving variances.
Partner with FP&A, Tax, and Treasury to support financial analysis and reporting needs.
Ensure compliance with SOX controls, internal audit requirements, and public company reporting standards.
Assist with external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation.
Qualifications
5+ years of corporate accounting experience , including month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.
Public company experience is required —you must be comfortable working within a highly regulated, complex environment.
Big 4 background strongly preferred , with demonstrated expertise in financial controls, compliance, and audit processes.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
Experience with SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems is a plus.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing high-volume transactions under tight deadlines.
