Assistant/Associate Professor, Education Studies and Leadership Location: Bowie State University main campus, online or at other Educational Centers as needed. The position may be remote, hybrid, or face-to-face based on departmental needs. This is a nine-month tenure-track faculty line with the potential for summer and winter course teaching. The candidate should contribute to the university’s mission, vision, and core beliefs and support doctoral students in their research journeys.

Job Description The Assistant/Associate Professor, Educational Studies and Leadership will teach research methodology and dissertation courses at the doctoral level in the Department of Educational Studies and Leadership (ESAL) within the College of Education. The role involves strengthening and expanding leadership programs at Bowie State University, including on the Bowie Main Campus, online, and at other Educational Centers.

Duties And Responsibilities Responsibilities include:

Teaching educational statistics courses, research methods courses, and dissertation courses.

Assisting in the development of educational leadership activities and programs at the graduate level.

Supporting existing cohorts and accreditation processes and reports.

Teaching evening and/or weekend classes in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats.

Advising students in dissertation research and developing/updating online course modules.

Participating in professional development at the department level and/or conducting departmental training.

Collaborating with local school districts and serving on departmental and university committees.

Working with students on the preparation and administration of the comprehensive examination.

Directing graduate student research and serving on dissertation committees; contributing to accreditation-related activities as appropriate.

Other duties as assigned pertinent to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD or EdD in the teaching field in higher education or significant K-12 leadership experience with senior central office leadership roles in one or more school systems.

Five+ years of teaching in a K-12 elementary setting and progressive K-12 leadership experience (e.g., principal, district director, associate superintendent, or superintendent).

Teaching effectiveness in Technology or Statistics.

Experience with Blackboard, PeopleSoft, and Student Licensure Data System.

Current knowledge of issues and trends in educational leadership.

Ability to organize educational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff, and to lead work groups with external partners.

Earned Doctorate in Educational Leadership or a closely related field; substantial K-12 leadership experience in progressive roles including senior executive positions in school districts.

Higher education experience is preferred, especially with advanced technologies in learning architecture and online course development.

Experience teaching research-focused and dissertation courses to doctoral students; service on dissertation committees.

Strong background in statistical analysis and proficiency with quantitative/qualitative research software.

Ability to teach in diverse educational settings (urban, suburban, rural) with understanding of policies, procedures, and laws.

Proficiency in culturally relevant pedagogy, current research, and classroom assessment; active engagement in professional organizations and scholarly activities.

Experience developing and implementing online courses and collaborating with diverse student populations; ability to address diversity issues within educational systems and communities.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
