Cost Accounting Lead – Manufacturing Location: Old Tappan, NJ

Salary: 140-145K Base salary + full benefits

This is a hands-on cost accounting role with some leadership responsibility for one team member. It requires strong technical accounting expertise, experience in manufacturing environments, and the ability to partner directly with plant operations. Occasional travel is required to facilities in the Meadowlands (NJ) and Westchester County (NY).

Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for cost and inventory accounting, ensuring accurate transactions and reconciliations.

Prepare and review cost accounting journal entries, inventory reconciliations, and COGS accounts.

Analyze manufacturing variances, overhead absorption, and standard costs. Work with plant operations to identify root causes and reduce variances.

Support standard cost roll-ups for new products and production changes.

Evaluate inventory for potential excess and obsolescence; recommend reserves and address large variances.

Provide capital budgeting support for plant operations and ensure internal control compliance.

Partner directly with plant directors and cross-functional teams in operations, materials planning, and warehousing.

Interface with auditors by preparing analysis and audit schedules.

Provide informal coaching and oversight to one cost accountant, while remaining fully engaged in day-to-day accounting work.

Contribute to ad hoc assignments and projects for the Controller or VP of Finance.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; MBA or CPA preferred.

Minimum 7 years of cost accounting and financial reporting experience, including at least 3 years with supervisory exposure.

Strong background in manufacturing cost accounting.

Advanced Excel skills required; proficiency with Outlook, Teams, and Word.

ERP experience required; SAP strongly preferred.

Proven knowledge of standard costs, variances, overhead absorption, and inventory accounting.

Experience with month-end close and inventory cycle counts in a fast-paced environment.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both finance and operations teams.

Willingness to travel periodically to manufacturing plants in NJ and NY
