Senior Underwriter, Small Commercial role at Liberty Mutual Insurance. This is a remote position with occasional travel for in-person agency visits. Ideal candidate will live and work remotely in Indiana or surrounding states. This is a ranged posting. Level offered will be based on candidate experience at manager discretion.
Base pay range $66,000.00/yr - $144,000.00/yr
Description This role involves underwriting in property casualty insurance for Small Commercial. You will develop, grow and maintain a diversified book of business while working closely with agents and brokers to assess risks, determine premiums, set conditions and negotiate deals that maximize profitability and meet business goals.
Responsibilities
Balance data analytics with human intuition to manage accounts with autonomy.
Develop, grow and maintain a diversified book of business in Small Commercial underwriting.
Collaborate with agents and brokers to assess risks, determine premiums, set conditions and negotiate deals.
Strategic portfolio management: write new accounts, manage renewals and cultivate agent/broker relationships.
Document account reviews, ensure state-compliant sign-offs and referrals, and adhere to underwriting guidelines.
Qualifications
Experience:
3-5+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience; experience with multi-line insurance products.
Skills:
Analytical and problem-solving capabilities; strong territory management; excellent communication; ability to build relationships with agents/brokers, peer underwriters and junior staff.
Knowledge:
Command of insurance finance and actuarial concepts; thorough knowledge of commercial insurance products, underwriting, risk selection, pricing, regulatory issues in relevant territories; understanding of contract language and state differences; familiarity with continuous improvement processes.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related field; Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter or other professional designation preferred.
