It is expected to be vacant by December 2025, and this assignment will end in February 2ND 2026. The hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated, and you may start the year as a Long-Term Substitute if the position does not become vacant by the start of the school year. Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional

School Based Social Worker

who supports the implementation of behavioral health supports, including trauma response and recovery, healing, and resiliency-focused services to help students achieve their potential academically, socially, and emotionally. The Social Worker, in partnership with other BPS providers and outside mental health partners, will support school communities by providing: Individual and group counseling and assessments Crisis intervention and response Managing a caseload, coordinating referrals to external agencies and programs Partnership with students and families Through a lead role in the Student Success Team (SST) and other leadership bodies, and in collaboration with school-based teams, Social Workers: Facilitate or collaborate with School Leaders, colleagues, and stakeholders in data collection and monitoring to identify trends and address conditions, policies, and practices affecting counseling needs and Tier 2/3 supports Utilize district-wide SST guidance tools to assess SST practices Develop racial/cultural awareness and authentic relationships with students and families The Social Worker will attend professional development and receive coaching from District Social Workers, Program Director of Social Work, and Director of Student Support to ensure service delivery aligns with district policies and professional standards. Reports to: School Leader (with secondary evaluation from the Program Director of Social Work). Responsibilities

Student Success Team: Coordinate and/or actively participate in the SST Collaborate with School Leadership to establish sustainable structures and partnerships; elevate student and family voices Design tiered interventions supporting an equitable Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Collect progress-monitoring data within Panorama to ensure interventions lead to desired outcomes Model authentic relationship-building with students, families, school community, and partnering agencies Establish and monitor MTSS through collaboration with SST members Communicate goals and activities of the student support program to students, staff, and the community Professional Learning: Attend monthly professional development on department policies, evidence-based mental health practices, community partners, SEL, trauma-informed practices, and healing practices May be required to attend up to 9 of 18 contractually required PD hours focused on mental health topics; school-based hours determined by direct supervisor Direct Service: Provide individual and/or group counseling, including IEP and non-IEP services; up to 10 individual sessions per week for students with IEPs; serve on IEP/504 teams as needed Provide Tier 2/3 interventions such as check-in/check-out and suicide/threat risk assessments Conduct sociological assessments for Special Education eligibility as requested; may include home visits Support crisis intervention at district level with Suicide Risk Assessments and Threat Assessments Consult on school climate strategies that support social-emotional development and student engagement Match students with appropriate services and coordinate follow-up; may act as a case manager Track and maintain data related to mental health partners and services Maintain and provide student data and monthly reports for the Office of Social Work Performs other related duties as assigned by the School Leader or Program Director of Social Work Core Competencies Accountability for Student Achievement Communicating Professional Knowledge Equitable & Effective Instruction Cultural Proficiency Parent/Family Engagement Professional Reflection & Collaboration Qualifications – Required Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling MA DESE School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor License (All Levels) Licensed Social Worker (LCSW or LICSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC); or eligible for such license Minimum of 3 years of effective professional experience in an urban setting similar to BPS Ability to meet BPS Standards of Effective Practice Strong interpersonal skills to work with school, students, parents, and community-based agencies Understanding of racial equity and ability to engage in dialogue about race and systems of oppression Cultural humility and self-awareness Current authorization to work in the United States by first day of employment Qualifications – Preferred Prior work as a school-based social worker Knowledge of Special Education policies and procedures BPS values linguistic diversity; fluency in one of BPS’ official languages is valued Certification as a trainer in Safety Cares de-escalation and restraint program Commitment to partnering with parents and students; belief that all students can learn; respect for families Terms BTU Group 1 Notes The start and end times of BPS schools vary; some schools have longer days under Schedule A ELT.
