The mission of the North Dakota Highway Patrol is to make a difference every day by providing high-quality law enforcement services to keep North Dakota safe and secure. This position manages a pool of New Entrant carriers through collection of documentation and effective interviewing of carriers. Maintain a working knowledge of federal motor carrier safety regulations. Evaluate company management programs for compliance with federal motor carrier and hazardous materials safety regulations. Plan, schedule and conduct safety audits and roadside inspections in accordance with state, federal, and hazardous materials laws, rules, and regulations. Write and prepare audit reports, maintain records, present and explain the report to company ownership. Minimum Qualifications Four years of work experience in the motor carrier industry that includes knowledge and application of motor carrier laws, rules and regulations. College coursework may substitute for the work experience requirement on a year-for-year basis. Basic computer skills. Efficient, timely, professional and effective communication is critical for this position, as is time management. Auditors must explain complex federal regulations and procedures the carriers need to complete in order to pass the audit. Ability to clearly and accurately articulate information in written formats. Must have a valid driver's license or be able to attain one by date of hire. Position involves traveling statewide and being out of town overnight.
