Payroll Specialist Employer:
The Phoenix Companies, Inc. This role is focused on processing payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. The Payroll Specialist serves as a content expert in UKG payroll, manages payroll and time entry processes for Nassau employees and affiliates, analyzes current processes, and implements efficiencies through improved solutions and workflows. The position requires coordinating with UKG to resolve day-to-day payroll and time-entry issues, managing the time and attendance module to ensure proper recording and payment of attendance and overtime, and ensuring accurate payroll funding and reconciliation at period close. Responsibilities Manages all aspects of payroll processing, including researching and resolving discrepancies. Ensures payroll compliance by assessing, implementing, and managing payroll law changes in UKG. Collaborates with UKG daily to resolve issues, set up new earnings/deductions, create new company codes, and perform system maintenance. Executes and reconciles end-of-period processing. Inputs changes to employee records, including adjustments, manual checks, deductions, ACH transfers, stops/voids/reissues. Calculates withholding information, termination pay, and deductions for manual checks. Coordinates and administers Wage Garnishment orders in accordance with federal and state regulations. Calculates Fringe Benefit entries and updates corresponding accounting entries. Works with federal, state, and local agencies to remit tax withholdings and provides required reporting to agencies; collaborates with UKG on tax inquiries and filing requirements. Determines tax liabilities for stock-related entries to ensure compliance with federal/state laws. Balances current payroll tax and taxable earnings with year-to-date totals and resolves variances to minimize year-end corrections. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Associate's degree in accounting or business, or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred; 3–5 years of related experience. Extensive knowledge of payroll accounting and balancing procedures. Ability to research, evaluate, analyze, and implement payroll system improvements in UKG. Expertise with UKG payroll systems. Technical expertise in federal and state tax legislation and labor laws. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve issues using appropriate references and resources. Independent thinker and motivated self-starter; quick to grasp and adapt to new concepts and technologies. Strong customer service skills to handle payroll inquiries in challenging one-on-one situations. Compensation Nassau maintains a holistic compensation philosophy focused on competitive base salaries, performance-driven incentives, and professional development opportunities.
