Overview

The Johnston County DSS mission is to serve, aid and protect needy and vulnerable children and adults in ways that strengthen and preserve families. We provide human services programs that are intended to promote the health, well-being, self-sufficiency and protection of families, children and adults within our community. Johnston County Department of Social Services has an immediate opening for a Lead Worker in the Family & Children's Medicaid Recertification Unit. The Lead Worker will provide professional human services work, assisting the Income Maintenance Supervisor II, with the Income Maintenance Program of Family and Children’s Medicaid. This position will serve as lead worker over IMC II level income maintenance; provide training for new staff and existing staff regarding the NC Fast computer system; conducting second party reviews and covering vacant caseloads as deemed necessary to meet business needs.

Responsibilities

May serve as agency liaison for providers and the medical administrative staff for problem resolution.

Monitor and analyze all reports and assist in timely application of all policies.

Perform general office work such as answering telephone, typing, filing, computer inquiries, etc.

Interpret and apply county, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures in specific case situations.

Aid with program monitoring, specifically in the area of Quality Assurance and preparation of cases for review.

Monitor recertifications to distribute work accordingly when the Supervisor is absent or unavailable.

Provide training and support to lower-level Income Maintenance Caseworkers as needed.

Assist with maintenance of caseload for Family and Children’s Medicaid recipients.

Participate in activities needed to determine initial and ongoing eligibility of clients to receive benefits.

Assist teleworkers with printing, office needs, and questions; monitor the work of teleworking IMC IIs.

Work and maintain FRR/BEER reports; assist with completion of Medicaid Verification Reports.

Provide coverage for vacant casework positions in the Income Maintenance Programs.

Prepare documents for hearings.

Perform 2nd Party reviews for IMC II and provide refresher trainings for error trends.

Perform related tasks as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Ability to compute complex equations using information technology, as well as addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and percentages.

Ability to use information technology to enter client information, determine eligibility and enter documentation.

Analytical thinking and deductive reasoning to arrive at reasonable judgments.

Ability to interpret and apply county, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures in specific case situations.

Ability to communicate complex information effectively with a wide variety of people/clients, staff and supervisors, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain positive, effective relationships with diverse populations.

Ability to understand medical and vocational terminology and legal principles.

Ability to organize and consolidate information, maintain records, prepare reports, formulate treatment plans and complete other caseload management functions.

Demonstrated ability to engage and teach staff skills needed to perform assigned work tasks including use of computer systems and software.

Demonstrated verbal and writing communication skills.

Ability to perform all functions to carry out Income Maintenance casework when covering vacant caseloads.

Ability to intervene and assess client complaints, provide feedback to client caseworker, supervisors and IM Administrators.

Thorough knowledge of Family and Children’s Medicaid and NC FAST.

Ability to conduct interviews/assessments, summarize and interpret findings.

Knowledge of agency and community programs and services which could assist clients.

Experience:

Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preference:

Knowledge and experience in recertifications in Family & Children’s Medicaid.
