The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Position Summary Serves as key support and communications partner on the executive communications team for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The Senior Executive Communications Consultant position provides strategic communications leadership, vision and direction across all three mission areas and strategic business goals with a specific focus on securing national reputation and thought leadership opportunities that advance key strategic priorities and drive engagement and reputation with internal and external audiences. From research to planning and execution, this position establishes and implements tactics to reach short and long-term goals and priorities to help the university and medical center achieve shared goals. Responsible for supporting the development, implementation and monitoring of internal and external communications plans and tactics. Strong writing and strategic message development attention to detail are essential in this role. Responsibilities 50% EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS Provides senior-level content development and editorial planning, including aspects of idea generation, research, reporting, writing and editing, with a particular focus on thought leadership that is relevant/timely for internal audiences as well as external audiences at the local, regional and national level. Develops executive communications plans to target key audiences and advance strategic priorities Develops and implements strategic executive communications tactics both internally and externally to achieve stated goals. Manages and coordinates projects through department leadership using department resources. Works with print and web content staff to coordinate message development to achieve the business goals of the university and medical center. Works with other teams/staff to identify needs specific to the assigned areas of responsibility. Works with graphic design team to assure visual and brand identity of all projects 40% STRATEGIC EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATION PLANNING/ANALYSIS Investigates and provides information on industry trends relative to executive communications strategies and thought leadership focused on the CEO. Analyzes strategic planning objectives and related financial and market data for key audiences. Directs, implements and monitors strategic executive communications plans both internally and externally to achieve goals as they relate to the strategic priorities of the university, medical center and CEO. Formulates yearly and long-range plans to generate awareness and influence behavior related to organizational goals. Engage professionally and collaboratively with all levels of leadership across the university to gather information and generate appropriate communication deliverables. Lead and facilitate projects and activities within groups and teams. Participates in strategic planning committees. Identifies research needs to develop effective executive communications plans and works with planners to analyze and interpret the data necessary to formulate communication strategies. 10% PROJECT EVALUATION Develops measurement and evaluation criteria for projects. Prepares reports to document the effectiveness of plans/tactics and shares results with key leadership. Makes recommendations on future activities based on evaluation criteria, budget, and organizational goals. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field. Minimum of 5 years professional experience, preferably in journalism or strategic communications. Experience working with executives and in the health care industry is a plus. Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills as well as presentation and negotiation skills. The university is an equal opportunity employer, including veterans and disability.
