University Counselor (Student Services Professional-Academic Related 1) DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE SUMMARY:

Sacramento State is an AANAPISI, Hispanic serving institution, as well as a Black Honors College with over 31,000 students located six miles from Downtown Sacramento. Sacramento State Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services (SHCWS) is a fully integrated mental and physical health and wellness facility. The Counseling and Psychological Services team at Sacramento State promotes holistic well-being and personal growth for a diverse student population through individual/group therapy, crisis management, psychoeducation, connection to resources, and outreach programs. POSITION DETAILS:

Under the supervision of the Senior Associate Vice President, the University Counselor provides a full range of culturally sensitive clinical and non-clinical services for Sacramento State students. A major focus includes conducting assessments (ADHD, neurodiversity, personality) and providing clinical services (short-term individual and couples counseling, group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, psycho-educational workshops, and case management). The psychologist also provides campus outreach, training, and consultation to students, faculty, and staff. Note:

This is listed as a “temporary” position but is a full-time role eligible for annual renewal with a robust benefits package. Salary range: $7,127 - $12,771 per month; anticipated salary $7,127 - $8,884 per month. Primary Responsibilities

Direct Counseling/Clinical Services:

Provide direct clinical services including assessment/diagnosis, short-term individual and couples counseling, group psychotherapy, crisis intervention and follow-up, and case management; collaborate with primary care physicians, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and other medical providers to provide comprehensive care for students in compliance with EO 1053. Telehealth on-site may be included. Assessment:

Provide comprehensive mental health assessments (ADHD, learning disability, diagnostic assessments). Competence in administering CAARS, CPT-3, WRAML-3, WMS-IV, WAIS-IV, CPI, and writing psychological evaluations. Collaborate with Disability Access Services for accommodations. Conduct screening/testing for ADHD/LD concerns. Outreach and Program Development:

Develop and implement programs including presentations, workshops, prevention projects, residence hall training, seminars, mental health screenings, and other outreach services as requested. Consultation:

Provide consultative expertise to the university community on mental health and well-being; provide consultation and occasional in-service training to faculty, administrators, and student leaders. Required Qualifications

Education/Credentials:

Must be licensed as a Psychologist, LMFT, or LPCC in California. Recent and relevant clinical practice experience. Clinical Skills:

Experience in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning within a brief therapy model; individual and group therapy experience; demonstrated work with underrepresented and marginalized populations; experience with high-risk clients; crisis intervention experience. Cultural/Racial Competence:

Commitment to ongoing multicultural competency and anti-racism. Training/Supervision:

Experience and interest in clinical supervision and in offering small group training seminars/workshops. Consultation/Outreach:

Experience providing outreach presentations and mental health consultation. Professionalism:

Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team; excellent interpersonal and written skills; experience with electronic medical records. Preferred Qualifications

Experience counseling in a university counseling center. Experience assessing and screening ADHD/LD concerns. Interest in working with non-traditional and first-generation students; experience in a multi-disciplinary, integrated health care facility. Applicant Instructions

This is a full-time, temporary 12-month appointment in the Student Services Professional-Academic Related 1 classification. It is not a probationary position and does not guarantee further appointment rights. Renewal is possible annually based on performance and program needs.
