Overview

Arts & Earth (A&E) Program Counselor role at YMCA of Greater Seattle. Facilitates and supervises arts studio, earth sciences programs, and the Marine Salmon Center for campers and participants at Camp Orkila, Orcas Island, WA. Includes art projects, saltwater touch tank, outdoor activities, and supervision of a specific group of campers. Staff train under Unit Directors and perform other duties as assigned. HIRING RANGE: $75/day. Staff returning to the same or equivalent job for the second season: $80/day; third season: $85/day; four or more seasons: $90/day. Responsibilities

Supervises and assists with camper supervision. Ensures all campers are accounted for and safe at all times. Develops lesson plans, teaches, and facilitates arts and crafts, marine and earth sciences programs that are developmentally appropriate and promote camper skill and character development. Leads and assists with all-camp events. Provides leadership and supervision to teen leaders placed with the program. Maintains high standards of housekeeping in bathrooms, cabins, and main lodge. Assists in keeping program equipment in working condition and available. Maintains program areas in a safe and orderly condition. Communicates personal or camper needs to supervisor in a timely manner. Assists in camper check-in/check-out off site. Attends staff meetings and trainings. Maintains relevant American Camping Association standards. Follows YMCA policies and procedures including medical, disciplinary, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

18 years of age or older Current certifications in CPR and First Aid 1-2 years of experience with children (camps, childcare, tutoring, nannying, coaching) Demonstrated experience planning and implementing group activities Ability to participate in activities involving physical outdoor activity (hiking, boating, camping, swimming) and to relate to parents/caregivers, campers, and staff professionally Preferred Education and Experience

One or more years of applicable education, training, and experience Knowledge of/diverse populations and ability to speak additional languages may be helpful Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building Code of Conduct and Equal Opportunity

This is a seasonal residential camp role, operating indoors and outdoors. Staff typically live in shared cabins with campers or with other staff. Housing depends on position and availability. Physical Demands

The role requires the ability to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands, reach, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Includes visual requirements such as close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Position Type / Hours

This is a full-time, seasonal camp position. The usual camp workweek is six days on and one day off, including training and staff meetings. This position is exempt from minimum wage and overtime regulations per Washington State law. Travel
