Overview
The Advance Nurse Practitioner (APRN) is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. The APRN position resides within The Health Center for Student Care and reports to the Medical Director. The individual uses evidence-based knowledge and skills to conduct physical assessments, perform procedures, and provide a broad range of health care services to women in the outpatient setting. The GYN-Nurse Practitioner collaborates with multiple primary care providers and referral specialists throughout the community. The position requires performing preventative health assessments, screenings, contraceptive management, immunizations, education, and counseling for patients and, if indicated, family members. The APRN is part of the medical team that provides health care services to the student population at Tulane University. The practitioner will provide medical assessments and exams, health education/literacy, referrals, and health screenings in a variety of clinic settings. The Health Center for Student Care offers primary care, women’s health, and men’s health clinics. This individual will be part of the Health Center provider group, attend regular meetings, participate in peer review projects and grand rounds, and be involved in community engagement activities. As part of a multidisciplinary team, this person will demonstrate leadership, communication, and professionalism. Located in New Orleans, Tulane is a private research university with membership in the Association of American Universities (AAU). Tulane University Campus Health is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and serves a student body of over 13,500. Responsibilities
Provide medical assessments and exams, health education, referrals, and health screenings in a wide variety of clinic settings for the student population. Perform physical assessments and procedures relevant to women’s health (e.g., contraceptive management, Pap smears, and other out-patient procedures). Collaborate with primary care providers and referral specialists; consult with outside clinical providers and public health agencies when needed. Maintain accurate medical records using electronic health records and computerized programs, including billing components. Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements; maintain professional licenses and certifications; stay current on developments in medicine and college health. Provide exemplary patient care and service, maintaining confidentiality and availability to patients seeking care or advice. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to utilize electronic health records and maintain accurate medical records. Clinical competence in outpatient procedures relevant to women’s health (e.g., IUD, Nexplanon, Pap smears, birth control counseling/prescribing, diagnosis of common gynecologic conditions). Skill in counseling patients on medical and preventive care, with the ability to refer for additional treatment when appropriate. Ability to consult with outside providers and public health agencies for services beyond Tulane Student Health Centers. Ability to adhere to professional standards and regulatory requirements; maintain professional affiliations, licenses, and certifications. Commitment to ongoing professional development in health topics relevant to student health. Required Education and/or Experience
Master’s degree. Completion of an ANA-approved Nurse Practitioner program with AANC or AANP certification. Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing by the date of hire. One year of experience in a clinical outpatient setting. Preferred Qualifications
More than three years of experience in an outpatient clinic setting. Knowledge of colposcopy. One-year experience in a Primary Care setting. One-year college health experience. Ability to supervise health profession students and trainees; maintain current clinical knowledge on health topics. Seniority level
