Overview
Microsoft AI is looking for a talented Android engineer to help build the next wave of capabilities of our personalized AI assistant, Copilot. The right candidate enjoys building world-class consumer experiences and products in a fast-paced environment and brings positive energy, empathy, and kindness to the team. The Native Engineering team is responsible for leading and building the core experience of Copilot on iOS and Android, while collaborating with Product Management, Design and AI Research teams. The MAI organization advances Copilot and other consumer AI products and research, including Copilot, Bing, Edge, and generative AI research. The team aims to shape the future of personal computing, aligning with Microsoft’s mission to empower every person and every organization to achieve more, while upholding values of respect, integrity, accountability, inclusion, and growth. Starting January 26, 2026, MAI employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) or 25 miles (non-U.S., country-specific) of that location. This requirement is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction. Responsibilities
Care deeply about building outstanding consumer-grade mobile applications. Build consumer-grade applications for Android. Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code. Collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, and AI Researchers to translate ambiguous projects into compelling experiences. Find a path to get things done despite roadblocks to deliver to users quickly and iteratively. Enjoy working in a fast-paced, design-driven product development cycle. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical discipline AND 4+ years of engineering experience developing Android mobile applications using Kotlin, Java, or equivalent. Working knowledge of mobile application architecture, design patterns, and UI/UX principles. Preferred Qualifications
Contributions to open-source projects. Experience building Android applications from scratch. Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and engineers. Passion for learning new technologies and staying current with mobile development and AI trends. Proven ability to contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment and knowledge sharing within the team. Compensation and Benefits
Software Engineering IC4 - typical base pay range in the U.S. is USD 119,800 - 234,700 per year, with location-specific ranges (e.g., San Francisco Bay Area and NYC higher ranges). Software Engineering IC5 - typical base pay range in the U.S. is USD 139,900 - 274,800 per year, with location-specific ranges (e.g., San Francisco Bay Area and NYC higher ranges).
