Overview

We are looking for an IT professional specializing in Mainframe z/OS systems programming who is ready to continue their career on a new IBM z17. The team consists of mid and senior level z/OS system programmers, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the mainframe, including installing and maintaining z/OS system software and 3rd party software, installing and testing mainframe software, and coordinating with application developers and teammates to resolve issues and monitor daily mainframe system usage. The Texas Comptroller’s Office serves virtually every citizen in the state and is responsible for the books and checks of state government. Responsibilities

Oversees job performance and analyzes long-running jobs to determine causes and suggest technical solutions to improve performance. Supports the mainframe change control environment for COBOL and JCL; collaborates with others to resolve issues and to apply new releases and upgrades. Oversees studies and prepares reports with findings, recommendations, and instructions for proposed system implementations; designs, writes, runs, and maintains monthly CPU utilization reports using SMF and MXG data. Oversees IBM mainframe performance and capacity planning; plans, installs, maintains, upgrades, and administers mainframe-related software; provides documentation for changes; offers technical support for users and mainframe developers on performance issues. Manages short- and long-range mainframe-related work activities, communicates with management and team members in a timely and effective manner; performs other related duties as assigned. Participates in and conducts mainframe disaster recovery activities, including hot site exercises; implements performance and capacity planning related jobs and updates documentation. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor\'s degree; Eight (8) years’ experience analyzing mainframe performance issues (including z/OS Db2); four (4) years’ experience with RMF or CMF and SMF data to create performance reports and recommend improvements. Preferred Experience: Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field; experience with mainframe performance tuning tools; experience with BMC\’s ISPW; experience with z/OS Db2; experience with SAS, MXG; experience with HTML; experience with IDCAMS, CLISTS/REXX, SORT, TSO, JCL, and/or WLM; experience teaching technical issues to developers; experience with mainframe software installation techniques and methodologies. Substitutions: One (1) additional year of the full-time minimum experience may substitute for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education, up to a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years). In this role you will

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 40-hour week, Monday – Friday. Occasionally may require additional hours including weekends and holidays; rotating on-call duties related to mainframe storage software and hardware support (24 x 7). Hours may change based on business need. Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency in Texas and must be able to meet in-office requirements which can vary by section. Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking. Compensation and benefits

Salary information: Austin, TX area; typical range is $198,100.00 – $342,300.00. The agency offers a strong benefits package including insurance, retirement plans, and flexible work schedules.
