VSE Corporation SUMMARY: The Sr. Configuration Management Engineer is responsible for aerospace configuration management systems and processes. The engineer will manage the entire process from change initiation to customer approval to final release. Establish and maintain configuration management processes to ensure compliance with internal and customer requirements. Will lead cross-functional teams, drive continuous improvement, and ensure regulatory compliance within the aviation sector. Duties & Responsibilities Define and document configuration items and documentation such as engineering drawings and specifications. Develop and maintain configuration management policies, procedures, and guidelines aligned with industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001), regulatory requirements (e.g., FAA, EASA), and company objectives for aircraft systems, components, and software. Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and technical support teams to define configuration requirements, document specifications, and maintain configuration data repositories (e.g., PLM systems, CMMS tools). Implement and maintain version control systems for hardware ensuring traceability of changes and adherence to internal and regulatory requirements. Lead the establishment and maintenance of configuration baselines, version control, and change management processes for aircraft design, manufacturing, maintenance, and operational activities, ensuring accurate documentation and traceability. Develop and enforce change management processes for modifying configurations including submission, review, approval, and implementation of changes. Maintain accurate records including status, location, and history of configuration items, using configuration management databases. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field. OR an additional 3 years of engineering experience in lieu of degree. 6 years of configuration management experience in the aviation industry, preferably with an OEM or aerospace manufacturer. Strong understanding of aircraft components. Familiarity with configuration management tools and practices, including version control systems, CMDBs, and change management processes. Understanding of airworthiness regulations and certification processes. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex configuration data and documentation for multiple mechanical components. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. Analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify root causes of configuration issues and implement effective solutions. Willingness to stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies relevant to aviation configuration management. Preferred Requirements Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field. 10+ years of engineering experience within the aviation industry.
