About the role The Safety Triage & Insights team owns and develops systems and customer-facing products across web, mobile, and API surfaces that help fleets identify unsafe driving behaviors and recognize positive driving habits. By collaborating with Safety teams, including ML & AI engineering, we ingest sensor and media data, detect risky behaviors, and leverage large language models (LLMs) to analyze safety events, surface patterns, and distill insights for safety managers. As our scope grows beyond detection, the team is developing proactive, higher-level products that provide insights to move from reactive coaching to data-driven safety management. As a Software Engineer II on this team, you will partner with Design and Product to evolve and expand our products, refine workflows based on customer input, and deliver scalable, AI-driven solutions that make the world’s operations safer, smarter, and more efficient. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US and Canada. In this role, you will Solve complex problems by architecting, building, testing, and delivering full-stack products. Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and support teams to deliver customer-facing solutions. Build with technologies such as Golang, GraphQL, Typescript, React, and MySQL. Prior experience with these technologies is not required. Integrate LLMs into safety workflows, design and run evaluations, and build feedback loops to improve accuracy and reliability of insights for safety managers. Own the operational health of production systems as we scale to serve an expanding customer base. Minimum requirements for the role 2+ years of professional software development experience. Strong programming fundamentals in Java, Python, or Golang. Experience designing, architecting, developing, and monitoring full-stack applications at scale. Familiarity with integrating LLMs into products, including running evaluations and creating feedback loops to improve generated insights. Experience using data to investigate issues and drive decisions. Ability to estimate, communicate, and deliver on project milestones with your team. Growth mindset and enthusiasm for building new skills. An ideal candidate also has Experience with tools such as Langfuse or Eino for evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement; optimizing LLM-powered systems for cost and token efficiency. Background in web application development using modern frameworks such as React, Vue, or Svelte. Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and experience designing, developing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (base salary + bonus/variable + RSUs) that is at or above market. A new hire RSU award may be granted at hire, with annual RSU refresh grants possible.
