The Infrastructure Engineer has a mid-level understanding of multiple IT infrastructure components and supports end user applications and services. This role involves working with server, compute, network, storage, data centers, data protection, virtualization, and related areas, with opportunities to gain depth across disciplines. The Infrastructure Engineer supports senior and lead engineers with implementation, automation, and ongoing maintenance, and provides feedback, documentation, and recommendations across the infrastructure life-cycle. Responsibilities
Serves as an escalation point for Tier 2 Operations team members, works on tickets, and creates or updates knowledge base articles.
Installs and configures systems according to design specifications.
Assists with analysis, troubleshooting, repair, and performance tuning of complex systems and hardware components.
Supports the ITIL Service Transition process, ensuring new and modified services are documented and that Operations personnel are informed and trained.
Supports testing and evaluation of technologies under review.
Plans, documents, and implements software patches and upgrades for infrastructure components.
Actively monitors the environment and appropriately assigns problem tickets and incidents; coordinates reviews to determine support needs for existing and new systems.
Provides technical support and 24x7 incident response.
Assists with root cause analysis on failures resulting in downtime or performance outside of SLA tolerances.
Assists with development and ongoing support of annual infrastructure performance and capacity reports.
Reports to the department Manager or Director.
Performs duties that may include additional physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or 2 years of relevant experience.
Previous work experience with an infrastructure specialization.
Intermediate level certification (RHCSA, CCNA, MCSA, VCP, VCAP, VCDX, CWNA, EMCSA, ACIS, CCP) or intermediate level storage certification; 4 years of experience may substitute certification.
ITIL certification within 6 months of hire.
Effective communication in English (verbal/written).
Infrastructure Engineer Network: CCNA or CCDA preferred.
Experience with Wide Area and Local Area Networks.
Experience with storage systems, SAN/Fibre Channel infrastructure, and related technologies preferred.
Microsoft certifications preferred; experience with Microsoft Active Directory.
Experience with Unified Communications, mobile provisioning and troubleshooting.
Experience with syslog, call detail records, and telecommunications alarm management platforms and remote monitoring.
Experience with Ethernet, Internet Protocol, Routing, and QoS preferred.
