As a Senior Software Engineer and Subject Matter Expert (SME), you’ll have the opportunity to shape cloud strategy, influence secure architectures, and drive innovation at scale. Your expertise will directly impact how critical systems adopt multi-cloud infrastructure, DevSecOps automation, and advanced cloud orchestration. We’re looking for a hands-on leader who thrives at the intersection of software engineering, cloud security, and systems design. If you want to define best practices, mentor engineers, and own technical direction—while working with cutting-edge tools like Crossplane and Terraform—this role gives you the platform to do it. What You’ll Do Architect and implement secure, scalable multi-cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, and beyond. Build and optimize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks using Terraform, Crossplane, and automation pipelines. Own the design and evolution of CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps workflows in complex, mission-critical environments. Administer and scale Linux-based platforms, containerized environments, and distributed services. Mentor and guide engineers, setting the standard for engineering excellence, while shaping the long-term technical vision. Partner with stakeholders to streamline cloud adoption, strengthen security, and drive automation-first strategies. What You Bring 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep expertise in cloud, DevSecOps, and automation. Strong proficiency with Terraform, Crossplane, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) at enterprise scale. Proven experience in multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern DevOps tooling. Strong knowledge of Linux systems, networking, and security fundamentals. AWS Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days). Nice-to-Have BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. Experience with service mesh, Kubernetes, Helm, microservices architecture, or compliance frameworks (RMF, ATO, FedRAMP). Passion for mentorship, technical leadership, and cloud innovation. Why You’ll Love This Role Impact & Influence – Your decisions will shape multi-cloud adoption and security strategies across critical environments. SME-Level Autonomy – You’ll have the freedom to design, architect, and lead technical direction with real authority. Prestige & Growth – Work alongside some of the brightest engineers in cloud security and automation, with support for advanced certifications and career development. Flexibility – Hybrid model (Charlottesville or Arlington), with potential remote exception for Crossplane + AWS/Azure experts. Professional Growth – Paid certifications and training for relevant technologies Comprehensive Benefits – 401k (100% match up to 6%), PTO, medical/dental/vision, life & disability insurance Perks & Culture – Gym/fitness membership, home office setup, swag, snacks, and team events Create a Job Alert Interested in building your career at Rackner?
