We are seeking a motivated Senior Accountant who will take a lead role in our audit and assurance services while also contributing to our tax practice. This role offers the chance to work closely with a variety of clients, mentor junior staff, and grow into higher-level leadership opportunities. Responsibilities
Plan, execute, and review audit and other assurance engagements for businesses, nonprofits, and employee benefit plans Perform substantive testing, internal control testing, and prepare audit workpapers and programs Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including disclosures Prepare Federal, State, and local tax returns for individuals, businesses, and exempt organizations (including multi-state returns) Conduct tax planning and accounting research Organize and manage multiple client assignments and projects Assist in training and mentoring team members Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field 5–6 years of experience in public accounting, with significant exposure to both audits and tax preparation CPA or EA license (or active candidate) Solid workpaper preparation skills and knowledge of GAAP Strong analytical, research, and communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team Ability to commute regularly to our La Plata or Leonardtown offices Preferred Experience
Leading or managing audit engagements Business tax preparation, including multi-state returns Experience with nonprofits, government contractors, employee benefit plans Familiarity with Thomson Reuters products (Engagement Manager, UltraTax, Guided Assurance) and QuickBooks Salary: $70,000 – $82,500 (based on experience and qualifications) Firm-paid health, dental, and life insurance (employee coverage) Vision insurance and dependent coverage available Health Reimbursement Account Generous paid holidays, PTO, bereavement leave, and compensatory time Paid professional membership dues and CPE (up to 40 credits per year) Mentor assignment and clear path for advancement Fun, flexible, and supportive work environment – including early closures on Fridays outside of busy season
