Overview

Stanford University, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the junior level (Assistant or untenured Associate Professor). Appointments will be made at a rank commensurate with experience and accomplishment. We seek applicants with significant accomplishments and future potential across the broad field of materials science and engineering. We particularly encourage applications from candidates with interests in computational materials science, biomaterials science, and/or mechanical properties, as broadly defined. Responsibilities and expectations

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to scholarship in materials science and to provide leadership to related academic programs at Stanford. The university offers extensive shared resources for materials synthesis, fabrication, computation, and characterization, including nano@Stanford facilities, the Stanford Research Computing Facility (SRCF), and facilities at the Interdisciplinary Sarafan Chemistry, Engineering and Medicine for Health Institute (ChEM-H). There are also significant partnering opportunities with SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The candidate must have or be completing a Ph.D. in the advertised field or a closely related one. Responsibilities include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, developing advanced graduate courses in the research specialty, and building a world-class research program. The successful candidate should be committed to teaching excellence and mentoring students in a multidisciplinary environment across departments and schools, including Engineering, Medicine, the Doerr School of Sustainability, and Humanities and Sciences. Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field (completed or near completion). Ability and interest in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Potential to develop and lead a world-class research program and to contribute to cross-departmental education and collaboration. Interest in collaborative and multidisciplinary work spanning several schools at Stanford. Application details

Within the research statement (not to exceed 4 pages), applicants should describe their plans for future research and how those plans could be realized at Stanford. Within the teaching statement (not to exceed 1 page), applicants should describe their vision for teaching in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and related fields. The expected base pay range for this position is: Assistant Professor: $141,247 – $159,910 Associate Professor (untenured): $152,547 – $191,506 This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment and does not include summer salary.
