Overview
Environmental Control and Life Support System Water Team – Project Test Engineer at Barrios Technology. This position is on the Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX) team supporting NASA pursuits in deep space exploration and Artemis program activities. Responsibilities
Research, develop, and test technologies for water recovery from spacecraft wastewater, including urine and humidity condensate Explore typical water processing technologies, including physical, chemical, and biological water treatment, contaminant filtration, biocide introduction, and water quality monitoring Work in a laboratory environment with an interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientists Collaborate in a team environment and report to the project manager on progress and issues Develop test plans with the ECLSS Water Team to ensure the test strategy yields sufficient information on system performance and capabilities Develop test procedures and schedules, coordinating with Johnson Space Center organizations for flight certification of hardware Design and build test rigs to enable hardware development test objectives Develop logistics, manufacturing, and procurement plans; work with procurement and vendors to order and verify hardware Inspect hardware on receipt to verify conformance with fabrication drawings/models Maintain a safe working environment by performing hazard analyses and following JSC protocol; conduct testing to assess performance of development hardware (chemical, mechanical, and electrical components) Gather, analyze, and present test results; communicate findings and development plans verbally and in writing Develop project documentation and maintain status of drawings and procurements; assist project management with configuration control Participate in requirements development, trade studies, and design reviews; develop proposals for technology advancement Perform other duties as required, including review of technical proposals, guiding subcontractor performance, and generating paperwork for flight hardware processing Qualifications
Required Education/Experience/Skills Typically requires an accredited bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or a related area 3 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., M.S. or Ph.D.) Experience with CAD and 3D modeling software (Creo, SolidWorks, etc.) Experience with meshing and/or finite element analysis software (Femap, NX Advanced Simulation, Ansys, Thermal Desktop, HyperWorks, etc.) Experience using Microsoft Office Suite Experience in Computer Programming Strong analytical and computational skills (CFD and thermal analysis skills/experience are transferable) Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary field Effective written and verbal communication skills Preferred Education/Experience/Skills Familiar with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures Experience with development of project planning documents and with design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware and/or water treatment systems Prior experience working in a system development project/program Flight demo experience Familiarity with feasibility assessments and trade studies Familiarity with testing hardware and working in a laboratory environment Essential Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation Post-offer applicants and employees are subject to testing for substances as outlined in our Drug Free Workplace policy Work may involve sitting for extended periods May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary Generally an office environment, but can involve indoor or outdoor work depending on task Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is critical Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust to peak periods and surge requirements when required Must be able to work in a team atmosphere and maintain professional behavior Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk This position may require some commuting and travel to other installations as needed Barrios Technology is a drug-free workplace and an Equal Employment Employer.
