Overview
Environmental Control and Life Support System Water Team – Project Test Engineer (ADV000BAD) at Barrios Technologies, a teammate company, supporting NASA’s Artemis Program as part of the JETS Gateway Mission Design Team. This role involves mission analysis and design across Artemis, with responsibilities in water recovery technologies for spacecraft wastewater and related system verification. Responsibilities
Research, develop, and test technologies for water recovery from spacecraft wastewater, including urine and humidity condensate. Typical technologies include physical, chemical, and biological water processing, contaminant filtration, biocide introduction, and water quality monitoring. Work in a laboratory environment with an interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientists. Report to the project manager to provide status on progress and issues and for support. Develop test plans with the Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) Water Team to ensure the test strategy yields sufficient information on system performance and capabilities. Develop test procedures and schedules, collaborating with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, including tasks related to flight certification of hardware. Design and build test rigs to enable hardware development test objectives. Develop logistics, manufacturing, and procurement plans; work with procurement personnel and vendors to order and secure procurements. Inspect hardware upon receipt to verify conformance with fabrication drawings/models. Maintain a safe working environment by performing hazard analyses and following JSC protocol. Perform testing to assess performance characteristics of development hardware, including chemical, mechanical, and electrical components. Gather, analyze, and present test results; communicate results and development plans orally and in writing through presentations, papers, and reports. Develop project documentation and maintain status of drawings and procurements; assist project management with configuration control of project documentation. Participate in requirements development, trade studies, and design reviews; develop proposals for technology advancement. Perform other duties as required, including review of technical proposals, guiding subcontractor performance, and generating paperwork for flight hardware processing. Qualifications

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or related area. Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design software/tools. Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at meetings; ability to graphically represent test results using data visualization tools such as Excel, Matlab, etc. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Versatility of skillsets: willingness to work and learn across chemical, mechanical, electrical, environmental engineering, and microbiology disciplines. Self-motivated problem-solver; team player adaptable to a dynamic environment and able to complete assignments as required. Preferences
Familiar with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures. Experience with development of project planning documents. Experience with design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware and/or water treatment systems. Prior experience on a system development project/program; familiarity with feasibility assessments and trade studies; familiarity with testing hardware and laboratory environments.
