Job Description
General Summary:
Performs diagnostic cardiac procedures/tests to assist physicians in assessing patient’s cardiac function. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and adult patients in regard to their growth and development process. The position actively supports the Hospital’s and the department’s Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service goals, individually and as an effective team member. Essential Job Functions: Performs roles of ECG level I technician Engages in advanced department initiatives (Holter Scanning, PaceArt, Research) Efficiently and effectively communicate with EP physicians regarding critical Holter results and complex testing scans Demonstrates clinical competence by working independently and consistently providing high quality electrocardiology diagnostic services in a manner that assures patient safety and assists in diagnosis and treatment of the patient on and off site Recognizes demographic errors and assures accurate processing of ECG data Recognizes dangerous arrhythmias, sinus tachy/brady, and contacts cardiologist Processes charges and assures hospital and physician charges, and diagnosis coding are accurate Issues, applies and tracks Holter and transtelephonic event recorders. Instructs patients, caregivers and house staff in their use. Performs all associated paperwork and accurately logs procedure Documents Holter and event timeline in Epic Receives, tracks and processes faxed and outreach ECG and Holters Takes inventory, determines inventory projection and contacts Lead Tech Tracks, maintains, and performs quality and functional checks on equipment. Contacts HTM or manufacturers as warranted Attends departmental and divisional meetings and seminars as requested Adheres to all hospital policies associated with confidentiality, customer service, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Infection Control Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others Mentors new team members, proactively training and guiding ECG level staff toward career growth Partners with department lead to enhance service line and workflows, proactively communicating and collaborating with team lead Stays up to date on process changes, updates to the lab through email, team meetings and educational seminars Acts as a resource for students, ECG Techs, Residents, Fellows in pediatric electrocardiology Preparation and/or delivery of training & educational presentations to students, peers, healthcare workers, or others in the form of an in-service, CEU, Peer review 1 time per year Receives positive feedback from performance appraisal about experience and skill. Demonstrating the ability to set and accomplish a yearly goal within the division and/or department Supports ECG services at the main campus and Lincoln Park as assigned Other job functions as assigned Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree and/or Certified Nurse Assistant preferred Minimum 2 years’ experience in pediatric ECG, demonstrating ability to evaluate advanced pediatric arrhythmias and basic pacemaker function required Demonstrates proficiency in advanced arrhythmia identification Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) certification required Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with Hospital/department staff and parents/patients Ability to travel among various nursing units and outpatient facilities Basic Life Support Certification required Education:
(BLS) - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, (CCT) - Certified Cardiographic Technician - Cardiovascular Credentialing International Pay Range:
$19.50-$30.23 Hourly At Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise.
