Overview

Towson University invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in contemporary art history in the Department of Art + Design, Art History, and Art Education.

Qualifications

Appointees are required to hold a Ph.D. at the time of hire.

Candidates with teaching experience, a global vision for developing the curriculum in contemporary art, a record of publication, and leadership experience are particularly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate annual evidence of substantial research.

Advise majors and serve on faculty committees; participate in shared governance at the department, college, and university levels.

Teach a variety of courses including a global survey and upper-level classes on modern and contemporary art.

Engage with interdisciplinary programs on campus, work with graduate students in the arts and humanities, and take advantage of Towson’s proximity to major collections (Baltimore Museum of Art, Waters Art Museum, Reginald F. Lewis Museum).

Possible curatorial opportunities in the University Art Gallery.

The Department

The Art History program is within the Department of Art + Design, Art History, and Art Education, serving majors, minors, and students across programs. The successful candidate will join three tenured faculty members and several lecturers specializing in art history and museum studies, with opportunities for research and interdisciplinary learning on campus and beyond.

Salary and Benefits

Targeted salary range: $65,000 – $70,000, commensurate with experience.
