The Department of Mathematics at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park Campus, State College, PA, USA) invites applications for a
tenure-track faculty
position at the rank of
Assistant, Associate or Full Professor
in Computational Mathematics. The search is open to any area in Numerical Analysis, Foundations of Machine Learning, Data Driven Methods, Quantum Computing, or other areas within Computational Mathematics. The successful candidate will develop an independent research program and contribute to the department's and college's teaching and service mission. The anticipated starting date is Summer or Fall 2026. The duties include research, teaching, supervision of student research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the university and the greater professional community. The candidate is expected to demonstrate interest in and capacity for developing a strong, independent research program and teaching and mentorship excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Mathematics Department at Penn State has a history of excellence in both pure and applied mathematics with groups in number theory, dynamical systems, geometry, algebra, analysis and partial differential equations, applied mathematics and numerical analysis. The department hosts several research centers: the Anatole Katok Center for Dynamical Systems and Geometry, the Center for Computational Mathematics and Applications, the Center for Mathematical Biology, and the William G. Pritchard Fluids Dynamics Laboratory. The University Park campus is located in State College, a vibrant university town in central Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program and demonstrate teaching and mentorship excellence at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Assistant Professor
requires Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) in Mathematics or a closely related field before employment.
Associate Professor
requires the same qualifications plus a strong track record of scholarly achievement, external funding, and demonstrated teaching and service success.
Full Professor
requires the same qualifications as Associate Professor plus a distinguished record of research, funding, teaching, and service at a national or international level. The department emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and hosts multiple research centers and groups. The University Park campus is located in State College.
