About The Role
The Optical Network Engineer will perform a broad range of implementation and technical project management duties on a team of engineers active in both sustaining and growing the Crown Castle Fiber Network.
What You Will Do
Build and Grow the Network: Design and execute backbone network growth. Reconfigure, optimize, and upgrade the network through projects that include commissioning of hardware.
Maintain the network: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues, support field teams, and interact with equipment vendors. Resolve potential network issues before they impact operations. Manage network capacity.
Project Support: Ability to support complex projects as a member of a project team and act as a technical resource responsible for accomplishing the engineering tasks associated with these projects.
Improve Efficiency: Integrate into our network engineering team to assist in the development of automation tools that align with the organization’s needs in a multi-engineer environment.
Documentation: Document processes and workflows for knowledge sharing and troubleshooting, creation of standardized procedures, and methods of procedure for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Understanding emerging technologies: Keep up to date with the latest advancements in networking and automation technologies to ensure our network and tools remain at the forefront of technology.
Education Qualifications
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience required
Experience Qualifications
3+ years experience with design and implementation experience with ROADM / DWDM / CWDM technologies
Experience with DWDM and ROADM platforms from multiple vendors to include Ciena (6500 and/or RLS platforms), Cisco, and/or Nokia.
Understanding of OTN, SONET, SDH, TDM, DWDM and CWDM protocols and standards.
Knowledge of Ethernet standards and familiarity with Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) standards.
Scripting and automation experience using Python, XML, YANG/NETCONF, Ansible, YAML, GitHub/Gitlab and any other scripting languages not already mentioned
Experienced with TCP/IP, SNMP, Telnet, SSH, and other networking protocols
Licenses and Certifications
Ciena OC-A or OC-P certifications preferred
Where You Will Work
Hybrid: This role falls into our hybrid work model, which is 2-days work from home (Monday and Friday) and 3-days in the office (Tuesday through Thursday) to optimize collaboration, relationship building and key stakeholder engagement and may require some travel as needed.

Compensation
The salary range offered for this position is $97,400 - $133,900 annually.
