ZipRecruiter, Berthoud, Colorado, United States, 80513
Job Description
The future of aerospace and defense starts here.
Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical security demands.
Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team. A team that will mold tomorrow's technologies while deploying today's best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.
As a
Configuration Engineer II – PLM & CAD Integration
at Ursa Major, you will operate at the intersection of data control and physical product definition. This individual contributor role combines traditional configuration management responsibilities, such as revision control, BOM structuring, and Windchill-based change management, with hands-on integration support for engine-level CAD models and their customer-facing interfaces.
You will work cross-functionally with engineers, program managers, manufacturing, and customer integration teams to ensure that product definitions are accurate, traceable, and physically representative throughout the product lifecycle. This is a high-impact role where attention to detail, technical fluency, and process rigor are essential.
Responsibilities
Execute and track engineering change requests (ECRs), change orders (ECOs), and document releases in Windchill
Maintain part numbers, revision history, and configuration status across assemblies and programs
Build and manage structured, traceable engineering BOMs (eBOMs) in PLM, aligned with manufacturing and program intent
Support release and metadata integrity of CAD models, including validation of structure, lifecycle state, and linkage to PLM items
Ensure configuration compliance with AS9100/ISO 9001 and internal CM policies
Partner with engineers to maintain and validate engine-level CAD assemblies, including mass properties, hardware envelopes, and shrink-wraps
Support creation and release of Mechanical Interface Drawings (MIDs), ICDs, and other customer-facing model deliverables
Work with manufacturing and design teams to ensure released models reflect accurate build configurations and support work instruction creation
Assist in preparing data packages for internal reviews, audits, and customer integration handoffs
Identify and escalate inconsistencies in model structure, part usage, or release state across systems
Contribute to process improvement by documenting CM best practices and providing feedback on PLM workflows and CAD/PLM integration
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
3+ years of experience in a configuration, engineering operations, or CAD-integrated CM role
Hands-on experience with PLM systems (Windchill), including document release, part lifecycle, and change control
Familiarity with CAD modeling tools such as NX or Creo, including assembly hierarchy and model metadata
Strong understanding of configuration fundamentals: BOM structure, part numbering, revision/version tracking, and release governance
Experience supporting model-based deliverables (e.g., MIDs, envelope models, mass properties reports)
Strong written communication and attention to detail; capable of reviewing and correcting documentation packages for compliance
Comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and program stakeholders
Experience
Experience in aerospace or flight hardware programs, including customer packaging and integration deliverables
Exposure to configuration audits, traceability requirements, and digital thread practices
Familiarity with ERP integration for part and BOM data flow
Knowledge of MIL-STD-973, NASA configuration standards, or similar frameworks
Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 GD&T and basic tolerance stack-up concepts
Exposure to audit preparation, first article inspection (FAI), or configuration verification workflows
Experience in validating mass property rollups or model completeness for flight vehicle integration
Background in CAD structure validation or BOM alignment from design to manufacturing
Experience writing or editing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CM processes
Ability to contribute to CM documentation and internal training material development
Benefits
Colorado base compensation range: $110,000 - $140,000, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities
Unlimited PTO - Vacation, Sick, Personal, and Bereavement
Paid Parental and Adoptive Leave
