Under supervision, the candidate will work on the Arterial Maintenance herbicide crew.

Responsibilities include controlling weedy plants along arterial highways within the five boroughs. In addition to herbicide application, duties may involve tree planting, inspecting roadway landscape median plantings, turf establishment, manual weed control, and general landscape maintenance, including snow removal. The candidate will operate and maintain hand and power gardening tools and equipment, make necessary adjustments, initiate repair requests, maintain simple records, and prepare reports. Minimum Qualifications:

One year of full-time gardening experience, including planting, cultivating, and caring for trees, plants, shrubs, and lawns. A certificate from a horticulture or botanic program with college-level courses, such as those offered by the New York Botanical Garden or Brooklyn Botanical Garden. A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above, e.g., thirty semester credits with at least fifteen in horticulture or related fields. For Level II, candidates must have an additional year of gardening experience and hold a Commercial Pesticide Applicator - Category 3A License issued by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, maintained throughout employment. Valid NY State motor vehicle driver license, maintained during employment. Additional Information:
