ES Battery Cell Modeling and Algorithm Engineer
to join our innovative engineering team in Concord, NC. This vital role focuses on developing advanced electrochemical cell models, implementing state estimation algorithms, and conducting data analysis essential for high-performance battery systems and Battery Management System (BMS) capabilities. Key Responsibilities: Develop multiphysics and data-driven models of lithium-ion battery cells capturing electrochemical, thermal, and mechanical behaviors under diverse operating conditions. Model and predict key cell performance aspects including rate capability, degradation, calendar aging, impedance, and safety-related behaviors. Design and lead experimental plans to collect data for model training and validation. Develop advanced algorithms for accurate battery state estimation (SOC, SOH, impedance) supporting real-time BMS applications. Analyze complex battery test datasets using Python, MATLAB, and other analytical tools. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (battery engineering, controls, and software) to integrate models and optimize battery performance. Review current scientific literature and provide technical insights to the team. Document and communicate model developments, algorithms, and innovations clearly. Apply electrolyte chemistry knowledge to enhance model accuracy and innovation. Qualifications: Master’s or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or closely related field; OR Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of relevant industry experience in high-performance battery cell modeling Solid understanding of lithium-ion battery electrochemistry and cell mechanisms. Proven experience in multiphysics and data-driven battery cell modeling techniques. Experience with COMSOL, GT-AutoLion, PyBAMM, or other physics-based electrochemical modeling tools. Advanced skills in Python and MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, and algorithm development. Familiarity with battery testing methodologies and protocols. Experience with laboratory testing setups and electrolyte chemistry preferred. Strong mathematical and analytical capabilities to handle complex data processing tasks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. Self-driven with a demonstrated ability to lead projects independently. Experience in automotive, aerospace, motorsport, or other high-performance industries is a strong plus but not mandatory. Personal Attributes: Passionate about advancing battery technologies through innovative modeling and algorithm development. Proactive, motivated, and able to take ownership of projects and contribute constructively to the team. Excellent problem solver with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
