Overview
Release of Information Specialist - Casual/Contract Role Location: on-site at a record center or medical facility. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Salary: $22.00-$25.00 per hour. Interpret and respond to requests for protected health information (PHI) while safeguarding patient privacy. Fulfiller release of information requests accurately and professionally within contracted service level agreements. Adhere to Customer policy, Iron Mountain policy, and state/federal regulatory guidelines (HIPAA). Reproduce PHI using photocopiers, scanners, and facsimiles; perform data entry using Iron Mountain’s tracking application to log and monitor requests. Provide routine service to customers regarding ROM requests, and retrieve/deliver PHI and materials on-site at customer facilities and designated Iron Mountain Record Centers. Attend meetings or training to stay current on industry and regulatory changes affecting release of information functions. Qualifications & Skills
Process all requests for release of information by locating and retrieving PHI promptly and in accordance with Iron Mountain policies; verify requester type and release requirements per HIPAA guidelines. Reproduce information according to SLA timeframes and applicable laws (e.g., subpoenas). Enter data into the release of information tracking application and identify status types for requests (walk-in, fax, pre-payment). Ensure accuracy and quality of reproduced work and data entry before providing information; comply with federal and state statutes. Generate cover letters, pre-payment notices, and invoices; finalize requests upon payment per policy. Use a variety of computer systems and maintain procedural consistency as required by the facility or Record Center. Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding patient information; HIPAA knowledge preferred. Strong computer proficiency and data entry skills; excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities; attention to detail and multitasking capability. Solid oral and written communication skills; ability to interpret Iron Mountain Release of Information Guidelines; escalate issues as needed. Ability to identify issues with ROI requests and, when necessary, escalate to a supervisor/manager. On-site work may involve interfacing with patients, physicians, HIM staff, and on-site ROI requestors; local and travel requirements vary by contract. Credentialed resources (e.g., RHIT) must maintain continuing education; education: High School Diploma or GED required; associate’s degree preferred; RHIT desired; 1-3 years of customer service, records management, or healthcare experience required. Total travel varies based on the contract and whether work is performed at a record center or on-site at a medical facility. Overnight travel is minimal (0.1% for training). Additional Information
