City of Minneapolis . This is a full-time position with variable work shifts, including weekends and holidays. The Minneapolis Police Department is seeking experienced Police Officer candidates with a strong sense of public service, excellent character, sound judgment, and effective communication skills. The position currently works on-site only. The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas. Responsibilities
Patrol assigned area to enforce laws, detect and prevent crime and protect life and property. Apprehend and arrest law violators, prepare written reports of crimes, and assist in prosecution. Draft and execute arrest warrants and make probable cause arrests. Establish probable cause, draft, prepare and execute search warrants. Conduct follow-up investigations for criminal prosecution of criminal and traffic complaints. Enforce traffic laws, conduct traffic enforcement, file accident reports, and investigate/reconstruct serious or fatal traffic incidents. Collect, evaluate, investigate, protect and preserve evidence at crime or accident scenes. Conduct surveillance of suspected criminal activity and provide undercover operations as needed. Interview and/or interrogate witnesses, victims and suspects and draft statements for court; testify in court as required. Record and investigate citizen complaints, including those about officer conduct. Respond to residential and business alarms for intrusion, robbery, or other emergencies. Protect the rights and safety of individuals, including political figures and dignitaries. Recover and secure lost, stolen or abandoned property. Serve as a Field Training Officer (FTO) supplementing academy instruction; evaluate recruits and share information with supervisors. Operate computer terminals to enter and retrieve essential information. Working Conditions, Licenses, and Requirements
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Valid Minnesota POST license or the ability to obtain one prior to date of hire. Possess knowledge of laws, ordinances and police procedures relevant to on-duty situations. Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in emergency situations. Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. Good oral and written communication skills. Authorized to work in the United States with no felony convictions. Color vision (red, yellow, green) and near-visual acuity with corrected vision to 20/40; standard hearing ability. Must pass medical/psychological examinations and drug/alcohol screening prior to hire. Must maintain physical fitness levels as a term of continued employment. Must pass thorough background investigation as per department standards. Experience and Qualifications
Previous Law Enforcement Experience (1 year preferred). The department reserves the right to determine the training necessary for consideration. Proof of Minnesota POST status required; applications without POST status will be deemed incomplete. Selection Process and Timeline
The selection process includes application review, evaluation of training and experience, department interviews (held virtually via National Testing Network during background investigations), and a background check. A conditional job offer is made upon passing background investigations and department interviews, followed by medical and psychological examinations and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Begin work 3-4 weeks after successful completion of medical components. This position is represented by the Police Officers Federation.
