Overview Responsible for serving as the primary onsite quality support to all team members and the crafts by managing the development and implementation of the Site-Specific Quality Plan and by researching/answering questions regarding quality. The Field Quality Manager (FQM) is a member of the project management team, able to work with minimal supervision, and takes the lead role in managing project quality and establishing the expected level of workmanship. This position requires thorough knowledge of the project and schedule as they apply to QA/QC.
Location & Travel Details:
You’ll travel across the US to support renewable project builds. This is a traveling position (up to 100%) with onsite work at project locations. You may be placed on a project site located in any state. Estimated project duration typically 8-16 months per project. Per diem, base pay, company vehicle, and fuel card are provided. Rotational program includes routine travel home from the jobsite.
Responsibilities
Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
Manage the Site-Specific Quality Plan to ensure products and services meet predefined quality standards and client expectations
Read and understand plans and specifications (visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions)
Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications for assigned work
Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies and cost-saving measures; take corrective actions as needed
Inspect subordinates' work for compliance with contract plans and specifications; point out deficiencies and implement corrective actions
Listen to input from employees and supervisors, evaluate concerns, and devise action plans
Observe equipment/systems functioning to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement
Produce quality work that meets plans, specifications, and industry standards
Maintain working knowledge of MasTec Quality Control Manual and procedures
Mentor and train QA/QC inspectors as needed
Prepare Monthly Project Quality Report; review and cosign with Site Manager and submit to Divisional Quality Manager
Facilitate Site Specific Quality Plan implementation and participate in weekly quality status meetings
Plan and perform field inspections and tests aligned with construction schedules
Perform weekly quality audits on each project scope
Ensure timely tests are performed and results interpreted to minimize impacts of failures
Provide training on project-specific quality processes and requirements
Provide QA/QC input to task planning
Develop written instructions/procedures for project-specific activities as needed
Organize and maintain project and corporate QA/QC files
Review/approve third-party test results for compliance
Collaborate with field staff to issue Quality Alerts and corrective actions
Train Field Engineers on quality requirements
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Two years of quality experience in construction or operations; experience with civil, electrical, or mechanical activities preferred
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in quality, industrial technology, engineering, construction, welding, or related technical field preferred
Trade certifications in testing, inspecting, etc. preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Commitment to health and safety and support for MasTec’s Zero Injury principles
Self-starter with organizational, managerial, and leadership skills
Working knowledge of construction codes (ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC, etc.)
Basic knowledge of crafts, inspection, and testing techniques
Familiarity with quality metrics, lean kaizen, and continuous improvement
Proficient in Microsoft Office and in software used to manage quality records
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, procedures, contracts, and regulations; write reports and procedures; and communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, and clients
Ability to coach and collaborate with staff at all levels to drive continuous quality improvements
Ability to interact with all levels of the organization, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
Numerical literacy for basic calculations and problem solving
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Site visits involve exposure to hazards; follow basic safety precautions
Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and noise
Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders; physical work requirements; reasonable accommodations available
